Welcome Message From Michael Gailey,
Solicitor General of Putnam County, Georgia
Welcome to the Putnam County, Georgia,
Solicitor General’s website. This website was created to answer common
questions asked by those charged with traffic offenses, provide helpful
information to defense attorneys, and to share important information
with victims of domestic violence and those who wish to volunteer to
serve as a Victim’s Advocate.
Common Cases Prosecuted in Our Courts
As your elected Solicitor General, I
am responsible for the prosecution of all misdemeanor cases in Putnam
County through the State Court of Putnam County and the Recorder’s Court
of Eatonton. Some of the most common offenses prosecuted by the
Solicitor General’s Office include crimes of domestic violence,
driving/boating under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, misdemeanor
drug possession, speeding citations, bad checks, and thefts involving
property or services valued at less than $500 ($300 in the case of
shoplifting).
Office Hours of the
Solicitor General’s Office
The Office of Solicitor General is open each week, Monday through Friday
from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Our office is located on the main floor
of the East wing of the Putnam
County Courthouse. After passing through the security checkpoint,
proceed to your left and continue walking until you have reached the
very end of the hallway to Suite 205.
Please call the Solicitor General’s office at
(706) 923-2331
or stop by our office at your convenience.
Professional
Prosecution of Cases
As
your Solicitor-General, I approach the prosecution of every case with
fairness, impartiality, and common sense. Every person being prosecuted
by the Solicitor General of Putnam County
will be
treated in a courteous and professional manner.
Protecting the Rights of All Victims
in Our Courts
We often hear about the judicial
system’s ongoing efforts to ensure complete protection of every aspect
of the defendant’s rights under our federal and state constitutions,
however, we hear very little about protecting the rights of victims in
our judicial system. As your Solicitor General, I am strongly committed
to fully complying with the Georgia Crime Victim’s Bill of Rights on
every case that comes into the Solicitor General’s Office. Within this
website, you will find a section on the Georgia Crime Victim’s Bill of
Rights which explains in detail the rights of victims of crime
throughout the State of Georgia.
Upon being sworn into office as Solicitor General,
the first action that I took was to create the Putnam County
Solicitor General’s Office Victim Witness Assistance Program. This
program exists to provide advice to victims and witnesses in every case
about their rights under the law, explain every stage of the
judicial process, and to offer support to victims of crime throughout
the judicial process and afterwards.
Please Volunteer to Become a Victim’s Advocate
Our victim’s assistance program is comprised of
volunteer victim advocates from our community who work with victims and
witnesses of crime through coordination with the Solicitor General’s
Office. Our volunteer victim advocates must pass a back ground check and
complete a certified training program to become certified volunteer
victim’s advocate. If you would like to become a volunteer victim’s
advocate, then please contact our office today at
(706) 923-2331 and join
us in helping to protect the rights of the most vulnerable of our
community as they pursue justice.
This is Our Community to Preserve and Protect
As a husband and father in Putnam
County, Georgia, I have very personal reasons for wanting to protect and
preserve the integrity of our local judicial system as well as ensuring
the protection of the most vulnerable of our citizens in Putnam County.
I sincerely thank you for entrusting me with the privilege of serving as
your Solicitor General and look forward to listening to your concerns
and taking action on your suggestions as to how we can better serve our
citizens through the Putnam County Solicitor General’s Office in the
future.
Sincerely,

Michael Gailey
