DO spend more time with real life friends than virtual friends

Never give out personal information such as your name, home address, school name, or telephone number in a chat room or on message boards. If someone does try to pressure you for your personal information (name, age, size, photo, address, family information), stop talking with that person.

Never send a picture of yourself to someone you chat with on the computer or exchange pictures with someone you chat with online unless you have your parent's permission.

Never write to someone who has made you feel uncomfortable or scared.

Do not meet someone or have them visit you without the permission of your parents.

Tell your parents right away if you read anything on the Internet that makes you feel uncomfortable.

Do NOT go to meet someone you don’t already know in real life . Remember that people online may not be who they say they are. Someone who says that "she" is a "12-year-old girl" could really be an older man.

DO be careful of strangers who try to turn you against your family while promising to be your best friend (they may send you gifts and give you lots of compliments, but at the same time, they are possessive of your time and critical of your parents.)

Do NOT open e-mails/instant messages or download attachments from people you don’t know
